Had dinner at Senjyu's.. oishi!!!

Well as the header says yes my family and I had dinner at Senjyu's in Cineleseisure.Apparently we went there to celebrate my birthday(it was well over 2 weeks ago). Dinner there was a blast and the only thing that never left my mouth is the shrimp. THE SHRIMP!

We started the meal with some sushi from the conveyor belt(well actually a lot) by order of eating(im only gonna mention describe the toppings) we had salmon topped with fish roe, soft shell crab, salmon with caviar, salmon with salmon roe and I especially ordered myself a mantis prawn temaki. From the menu we had the wonderful wahyu beef, a separate beef sukiyaki, some marinated octopus and jellyfish, Foie Gras(I was wondering wads a french dish doing in a japanese restaurant, apparently they have a sushi made from it) oysters and 2 sets( a tempura set and an udon set; i forgot what they're called but certainly not bentos). The salmon fish roe sushi was quite kinda common to me, well and the soft shell crab(i had it before somewhere else)...but slightly different than what I'd usually have. The salmon caviar was excellent, it had this rich sensation in my mouth fairly different than common fish roe.The salmon roe too was good, it sort of pops in your mouth without chewing on it. I was quite dissapointed with the mantis prawn temaki cos' I was expecting raw mantis prawn but anyhows it was good.

The wahyu beef didn't appeal to me, I had wahyu beef prior to this meal and the amount of it i had was enough to start an all-meat buffet.(last christmas a friend had this thanks giving barbeque party). The sukiyaki was superb, in my opinion the soup was good but not suitable for continous drinking as it was quite concentrated.

The top off was the best, I ordered myself another personal treat, the Amaebi(sweet shrimp) sushi and my my it was the best of the whole meal.It had this delicate sweetness in my mouth and a slight salted taste of the sea.If you do appreciate prawns, you'd know that the best part of a prawn is in its head. And if a normal prawn's head would be flavourful, imagine this one.Oh My god! The sweetness was so distinct and lasting and till now(typing this post) the sweet sensation still stays in my mouth!!!

Heres some tips on how to enjoy your sushi.

1.Sushi are made small for a reason, they're meant to be eaten in a single mouth.Note it is considered unclean and insulting to your chef to let a sushi sit half-eaten on a plate.(this is mainly an etiquette for dining at sushi bars)

2. Always start with the lighter ones, less flavourful (e.g cuttlefish, tuna) then on to the stronger flavoured ones.

3.Believe it or not wasabi and soy are not really meant to be mixed together.Wasabi is meant to bring out the flavour of the sushi, while soy adds flavour to it.Try a sushi with plain wasabi for an entirely different taste of the sushi.

4. The sweet pickled ginger is not meant to be eaten with the sushi, it is actually to cleanse the palate of your tastebuds before you move on to a different sushi.
